2008 General Rules & Race Procedures

 

 

ADMISSION

 

  • Children 6yrs old & under free (General Admission)
  • $5 General Admission
  • $10 Pit Fee age 15 & under
  • $15 Pit Fee age 16 - 64
  • $10 Pit Fee Senior Citizens

  

KART ENTRY (Kart & Driver)

 

·        $5 Registration Fee For Every Kart in 2008

·        Regular race night (Kart & Driver) -  pit & entry fee - $20

·        Money race night (Kart & Driver) -  pit & entry fee - $30

·        Additional class entry – $10 entry plus money race fee if it applies.

 

GENERAL TRACK RULES (The rules may be changed, or altered for the enrichment of the sport, and the track. All rules are subject to change in order to promote fairness to all.

 

1.      No fighting

2.      No approaching other participants to settle disputes. ALL COMPLAINTS must be directed to the track promoter, or race director.

3.      No alcohol will be allowed at the track.

4.      Everyone must be signed in, and have a pit pass prior to entering the pits.

5.      Drivers must wear all appropriate safety equipment during racing events.

6.      All drivers shall have a FULL FACE helmet for protection.

7.      Caged karts shall have at the minimum 4 point seat belts.

8.      Promoter will allow someone to assist in starting, and placement of the kart on the grid.

9.      THERE WILL BE NO CROSSING THE TRACK DURING THE GREEN FLAG.

10.  The flagman starts all races. On restarts, both karts on the front row are responsible for an even start. A kart jump starting twice will be sent to the back of the field.

11.  ALL WEIGHTS ON KARTS MUST BE SECURELY MOUNTED TO THE FRAME USING WEIGHT TABS OR WEIGHT BRACKETS. DOUBLE NUTTING OR LOCK NUTS WILL BE REQUIRED.

 

HEATS & Features & Race Format

 

·        All karts must be registered, and driver must sign in

·        All classes will draw

·        Draw time closes 30 prior to race starting time. If signed in after the cutoff, you will start both heats in the back.

·        Jr. 1 & Jr. 2 will run 5 lap heats & 10 lap main event

·        All other classes will run 10 lap heats, and 15 lap main events.

·        B-Mains will be used in more than 20 karts are in a class.

 

  • Prior to the green flag a kart may be restarted on the track twice prior to the green flag. If the kart dies on the track after the second restart, the kart will be removed from the track for that particular race. Also, a kart may be restarted after the green flag one time if a yellow flag is thrown however, it will be placed on the back of the field. A kart causing a yellow flag twice to restart will not be allowed to continue for that particular race.
  • Someone with a kart that needs to be started will be allowed to help get the kart re-fired. You have 2 pace laps to get the kart started, if unable to do so, the kart will be removed from the track.
  • Kart spinning out three times during any race will receive the black flag, and be asked to leave the track for that particular race.
  • If your kart dies on the grid prior to the race, you have two pace laps to get the kart re-fired.
  • Any kart that is stopped on the track racing surface during a race will draw the yellow flag. If it is allowed to re-start, the kart will be placed at the back of the line up. A kart trying to miss a spun out kart will be awarded their position back. The position will be the last completed lap. This will be determined by the track officials.
  • Karts entered will have to draw for starting position in the 1st heat. The 2nd heat will be inverted. How you finish in both heats determines on how you start the main event (feature).

 

LINE UP FOR RESTARTS

 

  • Karts will be placed in order of the last completed lap.
  • Karts causing a yellow will go to the rear. A kart trying to miss a wreck will be awarded their position back based on the last completed lap. This will be determined by the track personnel.
  • Do not approach kart under caution (yellow) while line-up is being done, doing so will result in your kart going to the rear.
  • On restarts the flagman will determine a fair start.

 

 

NUMBER REQUIREMENTS

 

  • All karts shall have legible numbers of at least 6” in height, mounted on the RF nose, and both sides of the kart. The rear of kart must have a number.
  • Must be contrasting colors. Example – white on black etc. If the number is not legible for the score keepers, you will be asked to change it.

 

  • All karts must be registered with Abilene Raceway Park. A $5 dollar (one time) registration fee for a number will be charged the first time you race, or enter at Abilene Raceway Park.

 

 

GENERAL SAFETY

 

·        Cage kart driver must have arm restraints, minimum 4 pt. seat belts, neck brace, and a quality helmet. (Snell 2000 minimum) NO OPEN FACE HELMETS WILL BE ALLOWED.

·        Driving gloves are mandatory in all classes.

·        NECK BRACES are mandatory in all classes.

·        ALL cage karts running alcohol will be required to wear a FR racing suit.

·        *Open karts must have a minimum of long pants with a racing jacket or racing suit to ensure no skin exposure.

·        *All drivers must kill their karts when exiting the track.

·        ALL Karts shall cross the scales after the feature event if required by the track. Any kart class may be asked to cross scales after the heats.

·        *TRACK WILL REFUSE A KART TO RUN THAT IS DEEMED UNSAFE.

 

SPORTSMANSHIP

 

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated
  • Rough driving will not be tolerated. Anyone called for rough driving will be given a warning (black flag pointed), and the next time will receive the black flag for the race. If you are black flagged twice in a night for rough driving, you will be barred from the track for the next scheduled race, and loose you points for that night of racing. If you are black flagged twice again in a night, you will not compete at Abilene Raceway Park for the rest of the 2007 season. This will be under the discretion of the track promoter.
  • Any conduct by children, parents, kart owner, pit crew, etc., deemed inappropriate towards any racing official will be barred from the premises for the next scheduled race. Doing this twice in a season, will result in being barred for the remainder of the season, and loss of all points. This includes going to another competitor’s pits. If a situation arises, notify an official to handle it.
  • Refusal to have a kart inspected in a protest, or tech will result in a loss of points for that night. Refusal of a second protest or tech will result in baring from the track for the entire season and loss of points for entire season.
  • If a kart is found illegal from a protest, or tech, it will lose the points for that night. Second time in the same season will result in barring for 2 races. Three times will result in barring for the remainder of the race season and loss of points for the entire season.

 

POINTS

 

  • All points will be cumulative thru entire season. One drop will be allowed.
  • Points are as follows

 

    1. Feature – 100 points 1st, 95 points second, 90 points 3rd, and minus five points for each position there on.
    2. DNF will receive last place points (did not finish)
    3. DNS will receive 0 points (did not start)

 

 

ENGINE TECH

 

  • At the track promoter’s option, he, or she may tech any kart they feel needed.
  • Competitor may pay $75 to have an engine teched during any race night. In the event the kart fails tech, owner refuses tech, kart and driver will be subject to loss of points on first offense, lost of points, and barring from the track for two race nights for second offense. The third time will result in loss of all points, and barring from the track for the remainder of the race season.
  • $25 will go to the tech; $50 dollars will go to the engine being teched. In the event the engine being teched if found to be illegal, the $50 dollars will be forfeited to the track points, or awards fund.

 

 

CLASSES – Other classes may be added if there are 5 karts to compete.

 

Fun Karts – Not allowed – Insurance Purposes

 

Kids Karts (CAGED)  – 50cc Comer – Maybe Blueprinted 8 & Under

 

·        50cc Comer blueprinted WKA Legal Motors ONLY

 

·        Caged – Must have six point roll cage welded or bolted to the chassis.

 

·        Must have a minimum of 4 point seat belts, arm restraints, neck brace and full face helmets mandatory.

 

·        Kill switch operational

 

 

Jr. 1 Stock  Non caged– 10 & Under (Restrictor) – MANDITORY

 

 

Chassis – Any racing chassis allowed

 

Tires – Any racing tire allowed

 

Motors – Motor sports engines allowed (STOCK FORM ONLY) – Motors must meet blueprinted WKA, or IKF rules.

 

Flatheads – Stock blueprinted WKA or IKF – PURPLE RESTRICTOR

 

Animal - Stock blueprinted WKA or IKF - PURPLE RESTRICTOR

 

Clutch – Shoe or disc – NO WET CLUTCH

 

Weight – Flathead – 250 # Min

 

Fuel – May run alky

 

 

Jr. 2 Stock – 11 to 15 yrs

 

Chassis – Any racing chassis allowed

 

Tires – Any racing tire allowed

 

Motors – Motor sports engines allowed (STOCK FORM ONLY) – Motors must meet blueprinted WKA, or IKF rules.

 

Flatheads – Stock blueprinted WKA or IKF

 

Animal - Stock blueprinted WKA or IKF

 

Clutch – Shoe or disc – NO WET CLUTCH

 

Weight – Flathead – 280 # Animal 310 #

 

 

ADULT STOCK (Open Kart)

 

AGE – 16 & above, or the ability to handle the kart

 

Chassis – Any racing chassis

 

Tires – Any racing tire

 

Clutch – Any disc or shoe type – No wet clutches

 

Motors – Motor sports motors allowed. Blueprinting allowed

 

  • Flathead – IKF or WKA legal stock on alky - #350 min
  • Animal – IKF or WKA legal stock on alky - #380 min

 

KT-100 (YAMAHA PRO) – Above 16 yrs or the ability to handle the kart.

 

 

Chassis: ANY RACING CHASSIS – Offset or straight rail

 

Tires & Wheels: 5 or 6” wheels with any compound of racing tire allowed

 

Motors: Stock blue printed WKA or IKF KT-100 motors

 

Clutch: Any type clutch setup

 

Fuel: Gas – Racing gasoline allowed

 

Weight: 340# min

 

RWYB (non caged) – Points & occasional money race.

 

  • Any 2 cycle, or 4 cycle motor.
  • Straight, or offset chassis
  • Any tire or wheel – 5 or 6”

 

 

MUST BE 16 years old, or show that you are able to handle the kart. Track promoter will make the decision to let the individual younger that 16 years old run, or not run in this class. Gas or Alky.

 

Weight – Min 340#

 

 

OTHER SAFETY RULES:

1.      All karts must have weights securely mounted to the frame using weight tabs, weight brackets, must use double nuts or lock nuts, and painted white with the kart number on them.

2.      Each pit must have a fire extinguisher in their pit area.

3.      Karts ARE NOT ALLOWED to be driven in the pits.

4.      If a bolt or nut requires a safety clip, you must have it installed.

5.      A written list of repairs will be given to each kart, and must be corrected prior to racing.

6.      FULL FACE HELMETS ARE REQUIRED

7.      RACING JACKET OR RACING SUITS REQUIRED

 

 

 

Cage Class

Stock Jr. Champ (BOX STOCK)

(8 – 13 yrs)

 

 

Motor – 6.5 hp (clones ok) Box stock non motorsports motors. No aftermarket motor parts allowed. No porting, milling, grinding or polishing. Stock camshaft with stock lift.

 

·        Aftermarket air filter allowed

·        Any exhaust header allowed. Must have flared or washer end if exhaust protrudes outside of frame or roll cage.

 

Chassis – Any racing chassis

 

Tires – Any racing tire

 

Wheels – 5 or 6”

 

Fuel – Gas only

 

Weight – 300# min

 

 Cage Class

Stock Jr. Champ (Motorsports)

(9 – 14 yrs)

 

Motor – Stock motor sports motors. Animal or flathead. IKF or WKA legal blueprinted motors allowed.

 

·        May run any type of header and must have flared or washer end if exhaust protrudes outside of the frame or roll cage.

·        Billet flywheels allowed

·        Maximum .030” overbore

·        May upgrade older animal to current model

·        Billet connecting rods allowed (stock length 3.285”)

·        May use fuel pump

·        Alky is allowed

·        320# min weigth
